Emergency Medicine is an exciting specialty, at times intense and very demanding. We seek candidates with attributes that will allow them to thrive in this high energy environment. Team work is paramount in the emergency department and we look for persons with diverse skills and personalities.

The three most important qualities we look for in candidates are integrity, intellectual curiosity and compassion. Other essential qualities include:
  • The ability to multitask and shift gears quickly
  • The ability to set priorities and a good memory for detail
  • The ability to function and remain calm in a sometimes stressful environment
  • The ability and courage to make tough decisions
  • The ability to work with and care for people from all walks of life
  • The ability to acknowledge one's limits and know when to ask for help
  • The ability to have fun and seek out new challenges

If you possess these qualities, there is a good chance that you would be an outstanding emergency physician and I hope that you will consider applying to our training program. Our high volume, high acuity clinical sites have lots to offer trainees. Residents leave the ED after a busy shift tired, but knowing that they have made a difference in the lives of those they cared for.

If you envision yourself as a future clinical leader, researcher or educator and if being part of a premier academic program is appealing to you, then please contact us. We have much to offer and would like to hear from you.

Sincerely,

Douglas M. Char, MD, MA, FACEP
